STATE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE OF MERCHANT MARINE OF UKRAINE (UkrNIIMF) HAS A MANY-YEAR WORK EXPERIENCE IN THE AREA OF SOLVING ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS OF CLEANING INDUSTRIAL SEWAGE AND GREY WATER

Various combinations of the technical solutions given below provide a complex management of all kinds of runoffs from enterprises, meet valid national environmental and resource saving requirements and are economically viable.
Some blocks of the technologies developed have been introduced or are at the stage of being introduced at Odessa commercial seaport and a number of refineries of Odessa province.

OIL CONTAMINATED SEWAGE WATER
A complex low waste and resource saving technology for management of oil contaminated sewage, drain, industrial and storm water has been proposed for refineries and oil terminals.
The engineering solutions have been realized on the basis of an automated complex using modern equipment and reagents of the latest generation. The block-diagram of the technology for treating oil contaminated runoffs is shown in Fig.1.

The introduction of the technology enables to:

Easily dehydrated oil contaminated sediments that are obtained as a result of cleaning the runoffs are subjected to biodecomposition by home-produced biological preparation "Econadin".
As compared to conventional technologies carrying out the proposed process of the runoff treatment ensures the reduction of consumption of water and power resources.
The use at an enterprise of the technology developed minimizes the introduction of highly toxic substances into the atmosphere, water environment, and soil and thus reduces the amount of payments for the damage caused to the environment.

HIGHLY MINERALIZED ACID SEWAGE WATER
As years go by waste accumulator batteries have accumulated at enterprises and their utilization until recently posed quite a challenge.
We have developed the technology of electrolyte recovery, management of acid wash water; utilization of the extracted sediments, non-ferrous plates and plastic bodies. The block-diagram of the processes is shown in Fig.2.

The use of the technology minimizes the introduction of highly toxic substances into the atmosphere, water environment, and soil and thus reduces the amount of payments for the damage caused to the environment and the environmental exploitation.

GREY WATER
A local high efficient system of cleaning grey water runoffs from an enterprise to the norms of technical water supply has been developed. The block-diagram of treating grey water runoffs is shown in Fig.3.

The introduction of the technology enables to: The sediments obtained as a result of cleaning are not toxic and can be disposed of to a dumping site together with the enterprise's domestic garbage. In the presence of oil contaminated sediments these can be concurrently treated by the "Econadin" preparation.

  • The use at an enterprise of the grey water runoff cleaning technology minimizes the introduction of contaminating substances into the atmosphere, water environment, and soil and thus reduces the amount of payments for the damage caused to the environment and the environmental exploitation.
